BLACKSBURG, Va. -

There was an auction Thursday evening for the Montgomery Floyd Regional Library Foundation.

Hundreds of folks turned out for the first ever "Bountiful Baskets Auction" at the Corporate Research Center at Virginia Tech. All were friends of the library and they bid on hundreds of specialized gift baskets. All the money raised will go to the foundation.

New River Valley reporter Orlando Salinas was also auctioned off and brought in the most money. The bidding for Orly went back and forth for a good cause.

Paula Alston, the Executive Director of the Montgomery Floyd Regional Library System, said this was its first auction ever and dinner with Orly was the highest bid item.

"Orlando volunteered. He volunteered to go out to dinner with somebody who was willing to pay and we took him up on it. So hopefully, somebody will bid and bid high."

The money raised will help build an endowment fund to carry the library system over, the next time there's an economic downturn.
