This Saturday, Roanoke County Schools wants students to hear some music and a message.

Bands from around the Roanoke Valley will compete at Bandfest this Saturday at Northside High School at 7:30 p.m.

The event aims to prevent negative behaviors by teenagers, from substance abuse to bullying.

Organizers say Bandfest was wildly successful last year and are hoping students from all over the Roanoke Valley will come this year.

"We're going to be talking about choices and the difference between negative choices, like abusing alcohol and abusing drugs, and positive choices, like taking positive risks such as trying out a new sport, trying a new language," said Chuck Lionberger with Roanoke County Schoos, "these are scary things."

The event is open to the public.

Admission is $5 or $3 plus a donation of a canned food.
