ROANOKE CO., Va. -

Roanoke County is upping its efforts to go green.

Leaders say the county is too big to have curbside recycling pickup.

So, the county just recently decided to become a middle man between residents who want recycling and private companies who will collect it.

The county has two companies it will put residents in touch with if they want to recycle.

For a fee averaging $20 a month, the companies will collect the recycling.

"We're just really an information pipeline, trying to help people. Because there are people out there who are willing to pay for the services it's that important, the convenience of it," said Roanoke County Solid Waste Manager Nancy Duval.

The county says it hopes to approve more companies that collect recycling.
