Investigators believe a man found dead in Roanoke County on Sept. 23 was hit by a car and dropped off near the Explore Park, according to the Roanoke County Police Department.
Charles Perdue was found dead in the 4300 block of Rutrough Road. Perdue was last seen in the area of Bennington Street and Riverdale Road on Sunday, Sept. 22. Perdue was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers.
According to a news release, Perdue walks frequently in the Bennington Street area. He was scheduled to meet for a job Monday morning, but did not show up.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen something suspicious to call the Crime Line at 540-777-8637.
Friends of Charles Kenneth Perdue say they are struggling to understand how he died. Perdue was found dead Monday on Rutrough Road in Roanoke County.
Georgia Morris met Perdue more than 20 years ago. Though he had personal issues, including poor health and an alcohol problem, she says he was well-known and well-liked around Roanoke.
"It's breaking my heart. I couldn't believe it. I just still can't believe it," Morris told WDBJ7. "I know it's true, but it's so hard to accept."
Perdue lived in Morris' southeast Roanoke home until last October when he decided to be on his own. Wednesday, Morris described him as a caring person who brought her a dog when her pet died.
"He was really a good person," Morris said. "I don't know nobody that didn't like Charles. And he had a good sense of humor and no matter what the situation, he could just say something and make you laugh about it."
The investigation continues, and Roanoke County police are asking anyone with information to call the department's Criminal Investigations Division at (540) 777-8641, the Emergency Communication Center at (540) 562-3265 or Roanoke Valley Crime Line at (540) 344-8500.
Morris says she doesn't understand how he ended up near Explore Park on Rutrough Road, because Perdue didn't have a car.
A funeral service is planned next Wednesday at Riverdale Baptist Church.

Roanoke County police are continuing to investigate what they're calling a suspicious death.
A man's body was found Monday on Rutrough Road near the Explore Park during a well-being check.
A Medical Examiner did an autopsy Tuesday to determine how he died.
Police tell us they haven't been able to identify the man.
