ROANOKE, Va. -

The Roanoke Higher Education Center has gotten heavier use in the past few years.

Now, it's getting a heavy makeover.

The nearly $8 million renovation is paid for entirely by state education money.

Most of the work will be done on the building's exterior to correct issues with water drainage.

School leaders say doing construction on a building while thirteen different colleges and universities hold classes can be tough.

"The challenge really is to sort of balance where the noisy work is being done versus where the classes are being conducted, so it's really a juggling act," Executive Director Tom McKeon said.

The construction will close a small part of Centre Avenue until April of next year.
