ROANOKE,Va. -

Three Stonewall Jackson Middle School students grabbed the attention of NASA. It's just one of four schools in the country asked to join in on a panel with NASA scientists.

The group was selected by the organization after participating in the STEM Challenge. The kids had to design challenges for astronauts and were judged on how well they did. They say the challenge that they had to showcase in detail, took weeks.

“We've been doing this for probably two months now, we've missed classes and we've had work to make-up and test,” student Elizabeth Phipps.

Stonewall Jackson was the only school in Virginia selected to present. The students won the Exploration Design Challenge.
