We continued the WDBJ7 Side Dish Showcase in Roanoke Tuesday morning.
Michele Morgan of Roanoke was our second winner with Rosy Apples.
The recipe is inexpensive, it can feed many, and it's easy to make.
All you need is cinnamon, orange juice, red hots, and granny smith apples.
Peel the apples, cut into medium slices, and place into a pan.
Fill the bottom with O.J., sprinkle with cinnamon and place red hots candy on top.
Cover and boil for 25 to 30 minutes.
Rosy Apples Recipe
Recipe: 4 peeled, sliced, Granny Smith Apples
1/4 to 1/3 cup of Orange Juice
1/4 cup Candy Cinnamon Gems/Red Hots
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
Peel as many apples as you need. This recipe can be adjusted to the number of people you are serving. Pour enough orange juice in the bottom of a pan to cover; about 1/4 to 1/3 inch. Place sliced apples in pan. Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon. Pour 1/4 cup of candy cinnamon gems over apples and cook over medium heat until apples are soft and candies have melted, making the apples "Rosy", delicious, and spicy! Serve with turkey, ham, pancakes, anytime!
