A Bedford man is charged with reckless driving after a head-on collision on Route 43 Friday morning.
Brian Clyburn, 36, of Bedford was driving a Chevrolet Tracker northbound on Route 43 around 8:20 a.m. when he crossed the center line and struck a Ford Taurus which was traveling south, according to a news release.
Both Clyburn and the driver of the Ford Taurus, Lloyd Blake, 79, of Bedford, were airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.
The crash took place on Route 43, just north of Route 838 in Bedford County.
Clyburn was charged with reckless driving as a result of the crash.
Investigators were not yet releasing the condition of the drivers, and no further details about the wreck are available at this time.
Route 43 has reopened near Bedford, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The road was closed in both directions just outside the town of Bedford for nearly two hours. The crash was near the intersection with Parker Road, about a half-mile outside the town limits.
State troopers say the driver of a Geo Tracker headed north on Route 43 crossed the center line and hit a Ford Taurus head-on. Both drivers were flown to a hospital. Investigators were not yet releasing their names or conditions.
