BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. -

11:00pm Update:

Several people are in the hospital tonight after a car accident along Route 24 in Bedford County.

It happened on Route 24 in Stewartsville, just east of Junction, Virginia and shutdown both the east and westbound lanes for about 2 hours.

State Police tell Your Hometown News Leader that two cars were getting off of Route 24 after a fender bender when a van and sedan collided head-on with each other.

Both drivers were injured but are in stable condition.

The sedan was carrying three other people including an 18-month-old child, all of which are expected to be alright.

Police say alcohol was a factor in the crash.

9:10 p.m. Update:

Authorities say both Routes 24 and Route 501 have reopened.

Two separate accidents are tying up traffic tonight in Bedford County.

One has closed part of Route 501.  Both lanes are currently closed near Route 651.

Another accident has also shut down Route 24 in both directions in Stewartsville.

At least 4 people were involved.  All were taken to the hospital.

Traffic is being rerouted through the parking lot of Chamblissburg Baptist Church.

There's no word on how long the road will be closed.
