ROANOKE CO., Va. -

The rain didn't keep people from coming out to celebrate the grand re-opening of Explore Park in Roanoke County.

Saturday started off with a timed trail run.

The kids did a mile and then the adults came in and did a 5k.  It was all to benefit Mill Mountain Zoo.

Some people got into the spirit of the "Into the Wild" theme by dressing up.

"Certainly, we want those who have been at the zoo before to come back and to bring their children, so we would like for the zoo to continue to operate. We count on a lot of our budget from donations and fundraisers," explains Zoo board President Chriss Davies-Ross.

Explore Park also hosted events for the family like hay rides.

Many rushed for cover though, using the park's old buildings for shelter.
