SALEM, Va. -

The clock is ticking to get all your Christmas shopping done and if you're looking for a one of a kind gift this year, one Salem business owner has you covered.

Diane Speaks has been brining international gifts home to Southwest Virginia for about eight years now and is the true definition of a world traveler.

Speaks has worked as a flight attendant for more than thirty years. Speaks said after September 11th attacks, the airlines took a big hit and Speaks thought she was going to as well.

"I thought I was going to be unemployed to be quite honest so I opened this boutique."

Speaks turned her love for traveling into a second occupation. She International now sits along Main Street in Salem and is home to one of a kind gifts.

"Her products come from overseas and they are things you can't get locally,” said customer Freddie Delbridge.

Speaks spends all of her time not only running the small business but traveling the world and shopping to fill it with things from other countries.

"I love the airline industry and the fact that I get the opportunity to go to Europe three times a month,” she said. “It's surreal."

Each necklace, earring, purse, piece of clothing and specialty item inside the shop is something you'll only find by crossing international waters. Speaks said it hasn't always been easy, juggling two very demanding jobs, but she's always enjoyed serving people.

"It's really tough out here, but you just have to keep on pushing and calling on your friends and clients,” she said. “It's tough, but I'm a believer so I felt like I'd be okay."

Speaks said she's expecting a lot of last minute shoppers. She's International will be open every day up until Christmas.
