ROANOKE, Va. -

One local girl is using her birthday to help the homeless in Roanoke.

For the third year in a row, Bailey Fralin has asked her friends to make donations to those in need instead of giving her birthday presents.

Fralin turned 10 on January 8, 2014 and asked her friends to bring items for the Roanoke Rescue Mission.

Fralin spent today donating toiletries and food to the facility including napkins, paper towels, bed sheets, blankets, toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Now, she’s sharing her story in hopes of inspiring other people to do the same thing.

"I'm not doing something everybody else does,” said Fralin. “I'm giving to people."

Fralin has been donating items to the Salem Animal Shelter for the past two years.
