POWHATAN, Va. -

Some of the fastest talking salesmen in Virginia were recognized this weekend.

The Virginia Auctioneers Association held its annual competition near Richmond Saturday.

One of the top winners is from our region. Jarrod Hines of Radford came in third out of 13 competitors.

The winner was Ben Svonavec, an auctioneer from Augusta County.

"It is really, really incredible to come down here and win it my first time out," said Svonavec. "I practiced a lot, but I know there are a lot of guys who were in here that have competed many times.

This weekend's competition served as a real, live auction featuring coins, jewelry and homemade baked goods. This is the 36th year for the contest.
