The Roanoke chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference is sending out a warning to those using the group's name for financial gain.

President Deborah Saunders says people and organizations are holding events in the name of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She says people are selling Dr. King memorabilia and trying to use the SCLC name on t-shirts. Saunders says this is an unethical violation of the organization's copyrights.

“Anything using the King's name or the SCLC name you can get sued and I want people to understand that. And what they really need to understand it's not something we want to do,” said Saunders.

Saunders says bootlegging is a problem nationally, and she doesn’t want it to become a problem in Roanoke.
