A Blacksburg soldier who's served three tours in Afghanistan and fought on the front lines is on a mission to help fellow soldiers and their families.
Staff Sergeant Jesse Schuster is getting ready to run the Army Ten Miler in October in Washington, DC. He has run the ten-miler before, but this time he's running with an organization that helps wounded soldiers and their families.
He's running with Team Fisher House for the Fisher House Foundation. The organization helps military families with travel expense and lodgings, when visiting loved ones at hospitals, who've been injured in the line of duty. Schuster know about the organization, first hand. Two of his friends have been helped by Fisher House.
“It's not an easy pill to swallow. There is a lot of anger; a lot of remorse; to see some of your brothers go down like that. But knowing that there are organizations like that, that’s kind of why it's important to me,” said Schuster.
