Nearly a year ago, a trooper from Pulaski County was killed directing traffic at the Virginia State Fair.

Thursday, state police honored Andrew Fox with plaques and a painting in his memory.

Those will be placed at the site of the State Fair in Caroline County.

Fox was from Tazewell County and died after being hit by an SUV.

“It's a bittersweet day for us. We're elated to see that we're memorializing Andrew this morning. At the same time, just two days short of a year, we were here in a different scenario,” State Police Superintendent, Colonel Steven Flaherty, said.

Fox graduated from Virginia Tech and was a volunteer firefighter in the Draper section of Pulaski County.

The woman who hit and killed the trooper got no jail time, but a suspended sentence and a $1,000 fine.
