As the new school year begins, law enforcement wants you to pay extra attention. Law enforcement was out on Monday in Rocky Mount to assist with the first day.

“At our high school where people are crossing the road, we have our safety officer there. Make sure you're paying attention to them. It’s illegal not yield to them, when they are trying to get kids across the road,” said Rocky Mount Police Derek Spencer.

Some signs give specific time frames on when speed limit takes effect in school zones.
