ROANOKE, Va. -

When Kevin Selfe left for college he was planning to become a television meteorologist. Friday, he returned to Roanoke Catholic School as a successful blues musician.

Selfe currently lives in Portland, Oregon, where his live performances and blues recordings have won critical acclaim.

A 1991 graduate of Roanoke Catholic, Selfe told the students to follow their dreams.

"The big thing is do what makes you happy," Selfe said in an interview. "And even though I had planned on being a meteorologist and I still love the weather, I was open to other different possibilities in my life. And that I think is more important than a lot of other things,  being open to possibilities."

Kevin Selfe and the Tornadoes will perform Saturday at the Oak Barrel Blues Festival in upper Elmwood Park.
