RICHMOND, Va. -

The General Assembly is taking aim at the state's ban on Sunday hunting.

Friday, lawmakers moved one step closer to allowing the pastime seven days a week.

The legislation that won preliminary approval in the State Senate applies to private property, and designated areas on the water.

Supporters of the legislation turned back an effort to let local governments decide.

A similar bill has already passed the House, and the legislation should receive final Senate approval early next week.  Governor McAuliffe is expected to sign it.
