ROANOKE CO., Va. -

The teenager who was behind the wheel of a Roanoke County accident that killed two of his friends last November on Merriman Road pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

17-year-old Dominique Young was in Roanoke County Circuit Court Wednesday morning to enter the plea. 20-year-old Danial Buckner and 18-year-old Cody Elliot died in the November accident.

Young was originally charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, but the Roanoke County Commonwealth’s Attorney agreed to drop that charge in exchange for Young pleading guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of Buckner of Elliot. The unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charge stemmed from Young not asking his mother for permission to use her car. Young only had a learner's permit at the time of the accident.

A sentencing agreement was not part of the plea deal. Young, who was 16 at the time of the crash, will be sentenced in July. Because of his age, Young could be sentenced as a juvenile, which his attorney is pushing for. The commonwealth’s attorney wants Young to be sentenced as an adult.
