A popular breakfast staple is breaking out of the kitchen and starring in its own event.
The first ever "Baconfest" took place Saturday in downtown Roanoke.
The day coincides with International Bacon Day.
To celebrate, bacon-lovers took part in bacon-inspired foods.
People could buy tickets to taste the assorted cured meat dishes.
"I hope they get a lot of wonderful bacon items. There are a lot of different items that they can taste. There are cupcakes, they've got a lot of different items," says vendor Bethany Gray.
Besides eating lots and lots of bacon, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Virginia's Commonwealth Autism Service.
