ROANOKE, Va. -

Fun and fitness is going hand in hand with patriotic service.

The Kirk Family YMCA in Roanoke wants to thank our veterans.

Currently active military get a discount at the facility, but for the month of July former military can join for free.

During the first week of this month, service members can try the facility for free.

"This time of year I think we're really thinking about being patriotic and all the great people who have done wonderful things for our country, so we want to salute the veterans who are doing wonderful things for us by giving them a place where they can be healthy and happy in body spirit and mind," explains YMCA Communications Director Kim Bratic.

The "Y" is also waiving its initiation fee for the month of July.
