ROANOKE, Va. -

Thousands of people enjoyed a hearty lunch Friday and it did more than curb their appetites.

More than 2,500 lunches were sold for the “Let's Do Lunch” fundraiser sponsored by the Local Office on Aging.

All the proceeds will help provide food for the Meals on Wheels program, which serves meals to senior citizens in need.

People had the option of picking up a to-go box lunch or dining at the Kazim Temple off of Campbell Avenue.

"It's been especially important this year because we've have budget cuts and waiting lists, so it really means a lot for this to be a successful fundraiser this year."
