Senator Tim Kaine spent the morning in Southwest Virginia.
Kaine visited Westside Elementary School in Roanoke learning about the City's new summer enrichment program, RCPS+.
He spoke with teachers and toured several classrooms to see what kids were doing and liked the emphasis on STEM, or Science Technology Engineering and Mathmatics.
While Kaine was focusing on education this morning, we asked him about the progress in Washington on a plan to lower student loan interest rates, which just doubled.
"I think we're getting close to a compromise that we'll be able to vote on in the Senate. Both the senate and the house have bills but we haven't been able to compromise them. The key now is to find that compromise and we're going to work very hard this week to do that," Kaine said.
Kaine also held a town-hall style question and answer session with workers at the Volvo plant in Dublin.
