VDOT is reporting that the congestion is about five miles, between mile markers 15 and 10.
Watch for slow or stopped vehicles.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, a tractor-trailer accident is causing heavy congestion on Interstate 77 for at least 17 miles.
The accident happened around 5 a.m. Friday. The tractor-trailer was on its side, but crews managed to upright it.
There was heavy fog through Carroll County at the time of the accident. However, police aren't sure what caused the tractor-trailer to turn on its side.
Drivers should use caution while traveling through this area.

A tractor-trailer wreck on Interstate 77 in Carroll County is causing major delays on Friday morning.
The left southbound lane is now open, but the right lane is still closed near Exit 1, around the Route 620 junction. That's about 2.5 miles north of the North Carolina state line.
Traffic is backed up about nine miles. Police are starting to slow roll traffic through that area.
