ROANOKE, Va. -

Two people have been charged with breaking into a Roanoke church early Sunday morning.

40-year-old Ronald Merson and 26-year-old Nicole Sullivan, both of Roanoke County, have been charged with burglary and grand larceny.

Merson and Sullivan are accused of breaking into Williamson Road Church of the Brethren. The church’s pastor and members reported several items missing around 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Officers with the Roanoke Police Department pulled over a car early Sunday morning near the church on Kennedy Street. The occupants of the car told officers that they were staying at the Knights Inn on Williamson Road.

Later Sunday morning, officers conducted a traffic stop and recovered possible stolen items from the church burglary. They also executed a search warrant on a room at the Knights Inn, and recovered more potentially stolen items from the church.

Merson and Sullivan are being held at the Roanoke City Jail.
