MARTINSVILLE, Va. -

Two women were indicted Wednesday on involuntary manslaughter and drug distribution charges in relation to the suspicious death of a Martinsville man in January 2013.

According to a news release, officers responded to Nicholas Basha’s home at 910 Spruce Street on January 5, where they found him unresponsive. He was taken to Martinsville Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Due to Mr. Basha’s age and what police are calling "suspicious circumstances" of his death, an investigation began and an autopsy was performed.

Based on investigation and autopsy results, Barbara Arthur of Martinsville was indicted on one count of involuntary manslaughter, one count of distributing fentanyl, and one count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl. Judy Bradley, also of Martinsville, was indicted on one count of involuntary manslaughter, one count of distributing fentanyl, and one count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl.

Fentanyl is generally used for anesthesia and pain management.Bar
