Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is continuing investigation into a suspicious vehicle fire, and they have confirmed that human remains were found inside the burned out vehicle.
They have not yet confirmed whether the remains were those of just one person, or multiple individuals.
The sheriff’s office received a call about the burned vehicle around 3:18 p.m. Sunday.
The car was located in the 2000 block of Philpott Road, near the Franklin/Henry County line.
Two days after deputies responded to the scene, the charred ground is still visible.
The sheriff’s office has not released what type of vehicle was involved.
We do know that the property is for sale, and that's how the vehicle was discovered.
Someone looking at the property discovered the burned vehicle.
Police say they believe the vehicle went up in flames around two weeks ago.
Anyone with information, including smelling smoke or seeing fire in the area of Philpott Road over the past two weeks, should contact Lt. Todd Maxey at 540-483-6601.
