SOUTH BOSTON, Va. -

The winners of upcoming races at Virginia International Raceway will have custom trophies made nearby.

Summer interns at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center worked on the trophies as a summer project.

They feature a scaled down version of the actual course complete with hills and grades similar to those on the track.

The winners of the Tudor United Sportscar Championship and the Biscuitville 125, a NASCAR race, will each get a trophy.

"Absolutely it's an honor. Like I said this is the first project with VIR, we're glad to be involved with them and hopefully it won't be our last," said Scott Jones, a project manager with the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center.

The team also makes trophies for other events and national organizations.
