With hundreds of bikers in town, you'll want to be extra careful on the roads this weekend.

The Virginia State Police says the best thing you can do is be aware of your surroundings.

When you’re dealing with high volumes of cars and bikes on the roads, people should leave more time during their travels and slow down.

Troopers spent much of Friday giving safety lessons to bikers in the area.

They said things tend to get hectic when there’s so many drivers on the road at one time.

"It will be at a time when people are getting off work, it's the weekend,” said Sgt. Timothy Knight with the Virginia State Police.

“Always be aware of your surroundings and please watch out for those guys that are out here and in turn we're going to tell them to hey watch out because you have to be a defensive driver on a motorcycle that's just the nature of the riding."

Knight says if it starts to rain and you're riding, your best bet is to pull over and wait for it to stop.
