ROANOKE, Va. -

Roanoke caught a glimpse of what Virginia Tech is doing to keep the Commonwealth green.

The university's Hybrid Electric Vehicle Team showed off the latest green technology at its event "Innovation Under the Hood: Roanoke's Green Car Show."

Saturday afternoon, Church Avenue's parking lot turned into a showroom for alternative fuel vehicles including hybrids and electric cars.

All major manufacturers were represented.
The team says events like these raise awareness about the need to adopt a cleaner way of getting around.

"We feel like we're really able to make an impact on the Roanoke community and raise awareness and really bring these new technologies to the forefront of peoples' thoughts," organizer Chris Bonelli told Your Hometown News Leader.

Also on display was a compressed natural gas vehicle from Virginia Clean Cities, an event sponsor, dedicated to improving the state's air quality.
