SALEM, Va. -

90 Virginia high schoolers are in the Roanoke Valley competing for a championship.

The Virginia State Golf Association is holding its Junior Stroke Play championship at Hidden Valley Country Club.

14 to 18 year old golfers from all over the Commonwealth are here.

It's a significant tournament for the players, especially considering several college coaches were here watching closely.

"You're going to have a good course, you're going to play by the rules, it's going to be a real thing.  So when a coach comes here, he's going to see how a player is playing under true championship circumstances," said Richard Wight, a tournament organizer.

The championship ends tomorrow, the leader is Mark Lawrence, a 16 year old from Richmond.
