ROANOKE,Va. -

The Old Lick Cemetery in Roanoke received a much need clean-up, by local students.

Some students from Community High School used the holiday to volunteer for the cleanup project. School administrators say the Martin Luther King holiday is more than just a day off. It's a way to give back to the local community.

“There's nobody who has clear agency of maintaining this cemetery. It's one of the oldest in town. It's a historic civic African -American cemetery and it deserves our respect,” said Academic Director Josh Chapman.

The school says they help clean the cemetery a couple of times a year.
