GLASGOW, Va. -

Instead of hitting the pool this summer, young people from around the state are volunteering.

The group is part of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Virginia; they're on a ten day pilgrimage. This afternoon they painted the interior of a church in Glasgow.

“We are trying to take a different outlook on mission work, not even just mission but service and what people in their community are looking for," said volunteer, Lauren Kirk.

The group is also making minor repairs on the town's hikers' shelter.
