CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. -

A well-known restaurant in Christiansburg has closed its doors without warning. Ryan's Steakhouse is located across the street from the New River Valley Mall.

We reached out to the mall management team who told WDBJ7 that it sold that parcel of land to Ryan's a few years ago and has no idea what led to its closing.

Movers at Ryan's said all the equipment was being moved out and taken to another location in West Virginia. A sign on the door apologized to longtime customers for closing and thanked them for their loyalty.

Throughout the day, customers like James Cox drove into the nearly empty parking lot, only to see the sign on the door.

"Six months ago, we heard [Ryan's was] going to close. We liked eating here but they said some other company is coming here," Cox said.

Ryan's corporate office issued the following statement Monday:

Effective end of business Sunday, July 13th, the Christiansburg, VA Ryan's restaurant closed.  The location was at the end of its lease and we could not come to terms with the landlord.

Impacted managers and crew were notified of the closure and severance packages were offered to those with at least 90 days of service.
