Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from a neighbor about a woman’s body lying in a yard on Lakeside Place in Eagle Rock at 6:40 a.m.

When deputies arrived, they found the 55-year-old woman’s body. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies then went inside, where they found a 62-year-old man with a head wound in a bedroom of the home.

The man was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

WDBJ7 spoke with the neighbor who made the call to police.

Fred Barnett says he noticed the body with his headlights as he was pulling out of his driveway.

"I got out to kind of look and see if somebody was just passed out or whatever I could tell by movement, well, there was no movement. I hollered her name, didn't go up to the body, I just stood back and hollered," Barnett said.

The incident is still under investigation at this time.

Police have not released the victims' names and they say they are not searching for a suspect.
