A man from Rural Retreat was arrested Sunday on alcohol violation charges and for allegedly assaulting an 18-year-old woman from Abingdon.
Michael Pickle, 47, is charged with misdemeanor assault after investigators responded to a complaint Sunday.
While investigating the assault complaint, investigators learned of the possible existence of a moonshine still at Pickle’s home on Cedar Springs Road.
After obtaining search warrants and contacting Virginia ABC special agents, members of the sheriff’s office and Virginia ABC special agents executed the warrant and seized 2 moonshine stills and several mason jars of untaxed whiskey, according to a news release.
The stills were approximately 10- and 2-gallon capacity.
Virginia ABC will place charges for the alcohol violations.
Pickle has been charged by the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators also learned that Washington County had an outstanding felony Grand Larceny warrant for the victim, Emily Montgomery.
She was arrested and taken to Washington County.
Pickle was released on a personal recognizance bond shortly after his arrest.
