Roanoke Rescue Mission cooks for one-thousand people on Thanksgiving

The Roanoke Rescue Mission started cooking four days in advance to prepare for Thursday's Thanksgiving dinner.

The Rescue Mission plans to feed more than one-thousand people on Thanksgiving day.

The head cook, Jeffery Gorham, says they will prepare a total of nine meals in just one day.

On the menu for the feast is white and dark turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes, string beans, corn and every dessert you can think of.

Gorham says it's a lot of work but it gets easier and easier. "Once you get an understanding that you're doing something for the Lord and also something for other people, it just grows in your heart," explained Gorham.
