ROANOKE, Va.—
The Virginia Star Quality Initiative is a product of the Alignment Project. It's a voluntary quality rating and improvement system designed to assess and improve the quality of care and education small children receive in the state.
It also provides parents with a checklist when they are looking for a child care center or preschool program for their child.
There are four primary factors for parents to look for at any prospective center:
1) Education, qualifications, and training of
program directors, teachers and assistants.
2) Interactions between staff and children
3) Staff to child ratios or class size
4) Learning environment and instructional
practices
