JACKSON, Mich. (AP) — Health officials say they're investigating a suspected norovirus outbreak at the G. Robert Cotton prison near Jackson.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports  about 60 prisoners showed symptoms indicative of a norovirus. Michigan Department of Corrections cleaning workers are at the facility.

Norovirus is part of a family of viruses that are spread person-to-person and cause flu-like symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramping. Such illnesses can spread easily in places such as schools and hospitals.

The illnesses first were reported Friday.
