Serial Killer Israel Keyes' Funeral to Take Place in Washington

There will be a funeral Sunday in Washington state for accused serial killer Israel Keyes exactly one week after he killed himself in his Anchorage Jail cell.

His family and their pastor will travel from Texas to Deer Park, Washington for a small service.

Pastor Jacob Gardner spoke with KTUU Channel 2 news Saturday morning.

He says he had never met Keyes personally but is very close to Keyes' family in Texas who are members of the "Church of Wells" in east Texas.

Gardner says the family and church members prayed for Keyes and tried to get him to repent for his crimes.

“He's been a heavy burden on our hearts that we have been bearing before the lord in prayer over these last sixteen to nineteen months,” Pastor Gardner said. “We have been praying for this man, so I am in no way ignorant of our dealings with him but very much intimately acquainted with his family and with those that have dealt with him in our church.”

He admitted to killing at least eight people across the country, including Samantha Koenig and Bill and Lorraine Currier of Vermont.

FBI investigators believe he could have as many as twelve victims.
