Busick originally told investigators that the burns on her child were caused by hot chocolate and that the injuries were accidental. Prosecutors contend that the injuries were not accidental and that Busick showed a continuing progression of abuse against her child.
Busick was originally charged along with her boyfriend, Robert Bruce Levalley. Levalley was found guilty in December on charges of injuring Busick's child, although he maintains his innocence. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with all but five years suspended.
