One year ago the Roanoke Rescue Mission opened the 2nd Helpings Shop, Gallery and Cafe. All the money raised at 2nd Helpings funds the mission.
Every month an artist is featured in the Gallery. This month, the work of local artist Julie Powers is on show. A reception for Powers and her work was held Saturday.
Powers says her work falls closely in line with the philosophy of the Rescue Mission.
"I try to get people see there's something beautiful in everything," Powers said.
The Gallery, Cafe and Shop are all open Monday through Saturday. They're located two blocks north of the Roanoke Civic Center on Williamson Road.
Powers' work will be featured for the rest of the month.
