Morgan Griffith Moving Into His Office

Washington, D.C.---

Monday was moving day for Morgan Griffith.

The new Congressman from Virginia's 9th District won't take the oath of office until Wednesday, but Monday morning he was unpacking his car, and moving into the Longworth Office building across the street from the U.S. Capitol.

The 112th Congress begins on Wednesday with a freshman class that includes more than 80 new House members.

Griffith only received the keys to his office a couple of hours before our visit, but he says he and his staff are ready for the hard work ahead.

"I'm excited about the challenges, and excited about learning the new ropes, so to speak," Griffith told News 7.

Griffith describes himself as "a legislator by nature." He hopes the lessons he learned in the Virginia General Assembly will serve him well in Washington.

As members of his staff sorted through the office equipment they've inherited and figured how to squeeze eight staffers and two interns into less than 900 square feet, Griffith said he's up to the challenge.

"It's going to be a lot of hard work and a hard two years," Griffith said, "but I do believe that together with all the other new folks that have come in we can make a difference."

Griffith won't have far to travel when he decides to get some sleep.

He says he plans to stay in a narrow space just a few steps from his desk, a least while he learns his way around Capitol Hill.
