The voters have spoken - and they were loud and clear.

Tuesday night, a big win in the 8th district for Republican Greg Habeeb.

Habeeb took 64 percent of the vote.

His opponent, Democrat Ginger Mumpower received 36 percent.

Habeeb thanked volunteers and voters at his campaign headquarters in Salem Tuesday night.

He says he's humbled by the victory but the celebration was short.

Habeeb, a local attorney and father of three, hit the road to Richmond where the General Assembly starts Wednesday.

The delegate-elect says bringing new jobs to this area is a priority.

"Now we'll have some specific job initiatives, there'll be some transparency and accountablity, government issues that we'll advance but it all fits into a broader picture of advancing the agenda of the families of the 8th house of delegates district," said Habeeb.

The special election was held to fill Morgan Griffith's seat.

Last November, Griffith beat Congressman Rick Boucher.

Griffith was sworn in last week on Capitol Hill.
