NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- The Internal Revenue Service says it has $2.3 million in unclaimed federal tax refunds that it wants to return to Virginians.
The IRS says it was unable to deliver refund checks to 2,239 taxpayers because of mailing-address errors.
Undelivered refund checks in Virginia average $1,046 this year, compared to $903 last
year.
IRS spokesman Jim Dupree told The Virginian-Pilot that taxpayers who think they're still due a refund can get their money sooner if they update their mailing-address address information.
A taxpayer expecting a refund can update their addresses and check the status of their refund with the "Where's My Refund?" tool on IRS.gov.
Taxpayers also can call 800-829-1954.
