Some Virginia Tech students and local youth groups found a good way to honor Martin Luther King's legacy of service on Monday.
Students spent most of the day collecting food outside of several Kroger and Wal-Mart stores in the New River Valley.
Each group took certain food donations from shoppers.

"Oh yeah, they've been very generous.  Some people bring one item.  Some may bring three or four.  It's all been pretty good so far, like, it's been a wide variety.  The the three items we have are pancakes, syrup and cereal, and we've gotten a very good wide variety of them," said Chris Tomlinson, a Virginia Tech student and volunteer.
All of the items will be given to five local food pantries.
The food drive is part of Tech's weeklong Martin Luther King celebration.
It was organized and sponsored by the Center for Student Engagement and Community Partnerships at Virginia Tech.
