A 9-year-old boy who was hit by a car Friday in Lynchburg has died.
The boy, whose name has not been released, died Monday afternoon as a result of his injuries.
According to investigators, the boy ran out in front of a car in the 8100 block of Timberlake Road.
He was waiting with his mother and three sisters to cross the street. Police say the mother told the boy to wait to cross the street, but the boy did not hear her.

The accident happened around 2 p.m. on Timberlake Road.
Police say a person was driving east on the 8100 block of Timberlake Road when the boy ran in front of the vehicle. Investigators say the boy was waiting to cross the street with his mother and three sisters. The mother told the boy to wait to cross, but the boy did not hear her.
The boy was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital and later airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center where he is in critical condition.
