ACLU, Jane Doe say prayer lawsuit should move forward

A Pittsylvania County woman and the American Civil Liberties Union say a lawsuit over prayer should go forward.  Lawyers filed their arguments in Danville's federal court Wednesday.

The woman, who's name has not been made public, says she has been "subjected to government-sponsored sectarian prayers" at meetings of the county board of supervisors.  Unless the court intervenes, she argues, the illegal practice will continue into the future.  Her lawyers argue that such prayers are unconstitutional.

Lawyers for the board argue that the lawsuit should be thrown out.  They say the prayers do not advance any particular religion and that they are intended only for members of the board.
