After hit and run, students and neighbors stress street lights

Students and people who live on a busy street in Danville are asking the city to install street lights before another student gets hurt.

Last month a Danville Community College student was hit by a car on Kemper Road, then ran over by another car.

Police say both drivers left the student in the road and didn't offer any help.

The street runs beside the college, but students say it can be dark at night. One student believes the hit and run could have been prevented.

"Just lights, that's just like a common thing, you think they would have put more lights up right there anyways, But they haven't did it yet. It takes something like this to happen for someone to, for them to even think about putting lights up there," said Jamaal Anderson, a student at DCC.

City council was asked to consider putting street lights up beside the college. The student that was hit is now out of the hospital.
